“Training for Excellence!”

The training site is located at Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville, PA on Muir Army Airfield and has been in operation since 1981. The Eastern AATS is fully accredited by The Army School System (TASS) as a “Learning Institution of Excellence” charged to conduct National Guard Bureau directed training. This training includes individual aircrew qualification, non-commissioned officer professional education, and enlisted military occupational and additional skill identifier training in our primary area of focus on utility and cargo rotary-wing aircraft. The Eastern AATS strives to provide America’s Army and international aircrew members the best possible instruction and support in formal courses of instruction as well as in flight simulation training on the UH-60, CH-47, and UH-72 aircraft. A modern co-located dormitory and medical clinic enhance soldier quality of life and allow the staff of 118 military personnel and civilian contractors to fully support the development of the warrior spirit in the Soldiers that train here.

Our Location

The Eastern AATS is located on Fort Indiantown Gap, a 19,200 acre military reservation centrally located in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania approximately 20 miles northeast of the state capital of Harrisburg. We are easily accessible from Harrisburg International Airport or Interstate 81. Situated adjacent to MUIR Army Airfield, the Eastern AATS offers access to more than 1,000 square miles of tactical terrain flight training area. More information about Fort Indiantown Gap can be found at: www.ftig.ng.mil

Our Mission

Serve as an ARNG aviation training site focusing on Utility and Cargo aircraft. Supervise, develop and conduct programs of instruction (POI) as directed by NGB/ARNG. Conduct individual aviator qualification training, enlisted aviation training and NCOPDS. Manage and operate flight simulation support for regional users and in support of formal course of instruction. Provide Aeromedical services in support of the AATS mission. Upon mobilization, augment TRADOC under the command and control of the US Army Aviation Center of Excellence (USAACE).

Our Vision

To be the best aviation training site in the Army, forging into the 21st century with skilled personnel dedicated to excellence in training, readiness, warfighting, volunteerism and quality of life – a training site fully equipped with modernized systems and facilities, committed to customer service in support of national warfighting objectives and Army transformation initiatives.

The Eastern AATS is organized with two subordinate training battalions and support staff: An Aviation Training Battalion-Utility (ATB-U) and an Aviation Training Battalion-Cargo (ATB-C). Course information is found under ATRRS school code 960.

The training curriculum at the Eastern AATS consists of more than 28 formal courses providing technical and functional training to over 1500 Soldiers annually from all 54 states and territories, the active Army, Army Reserves and various international military students.

The Flight Training Company, ATB-U, conducts aircraft qualification courses, instructor pilot and maintenance test pilot courses in the UH-60A/L.

The Enlisted Training Company, ATB-U, conducts MOS qualification / transition courses for 15T, as well as hosting the Aircraft Crew member Standardization Instructor Course (UH-60).

The Flight Training Company, ATB-C, conducts aircraft qualification courses and instructor pilot training in the CH47D/F and conducts MOS qualification / transition for 15U, as well as hosting the EAATS CH-47 Flight Engineer Course (EFEC).

The two battalions operate the largest flight simulation complex in the reserve component providing virtual simulation and procedure training in the CH-47, UH-60, and UH-72 devices.

The Medical Support Company, ATB-C, is staffed with a flight surgeon, physician's assistant, medics, and support personnel conducting more than 1,000 medical exams and over 3,000 patient contacts annually.

The Department of Evaluation and Standards (DES), USAACE, is a tenant activity of the Eastern AATS with a mission to assist the command in providing safe, high quality flight instruction to formal course students.

The training site offers a 35 acre campus consisting of full motion flight simulators, UH-60 and CH-47 Hardware Maintenance Trainers, UH-60 and CH-47 Remove and Replace Trainers, a state-of-the-art multimedia classroom for Distance Learning classes and computerized classrooms to facilitate and support interactive multi-media instruction and automation initiatives, and an Aviation Life Support Equipment repair facility.

The Eastern AATS is a keystone of readiness for the Army aviation training program, ensuring readiness in a cost-effective manner. Truly "Training for Excellence!"
